5 Differences of Holistic Treatment

There are so many therapeutic benefits to holistic addiction treatment. At Royal Life Centers, we use a holistic approach to treat the mind, body, and spirit for a full recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction. Our alcohol and drug addiction treatment methods are proven effective, and promote wellness in all aspects of life.

Our treatment for alcoholism and substance use disorder can come in a variety of treatment options, including: medical detox, our residential inpatient program, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), our intensive outpatient program (IOP), an outpatient program (OP), sober living and graduate housing. We offer many services through out our treatment programs, that ensure optimal treatment for substance abuse and mental health.

Dependence on substances and alcohol dependence, are best treated first with our medical detox program. This program can last for 4 or 8 days, depending on the condition of our guest and their specific needs addressed in an initial assessment. Physical dependence on substances, including alcohol, can produce a variety of withdrawal symptoms once the substance is removed. For our guest’s safety and comfort, it is best to attend our medical detox center to remove a substance from the body. Our medical professionals and staff will evaluate your health, symptoms, and tend to any discomfort or needs. We use medication-assisted treatment on a case-by-case basis, which means that we administer medication alongside behavioral therapies, to ensure optimal health. The support groups we offer during medical detox and our other treatment programs also provide invaluable support to our guests.

A holistic treatment approach is beneficial for addiction treatment, no matter the substance use disorder being treated.

Here are 5 differences of holistic treatment:

1. Physical Wellness

Holistic treatment offers a physical wellness feature, like mindfulness techniques including meditation and yoga. Physical wellness is extremely important for recovery, and for health. Alcohol use disorder and substance use disorder can severely disrupt healthy physical wellness habits, like exercise and spirituality. At Royal Life Centers, we teach guests how to get back into a routine of health and physical wellness.

2.  Therapies that Encourage Self-Discovery

Royal Life Centers offers a variety of holistic therapy practices, like art therapy, music therapy, etc. An opportunity to experience these practices can teach our guests about what brings them personal joy. In addition to providing an outlet of self-expression, introducing guests to things like art therapy teaches them healthy activities that they can practice outside of treatment also.

3. Equine Therapy

Most people would never dream that addiction treatment could include opportunities to spend time with animals like horses. Equine, or horse therapy, is a holistic therapy that encourages social interactions, interpersonal effectiveness, and more. Horses are powerful and perceptive creatures, so interacting with them requires attention to how your actions can quickly impact reactions.

4. Better Understanding of Self

Addiction destroys the connection we have between our mind, body, and spirit. Our holistic approach wishes to re-gain and strengthen the connections between mind, body, and spirit. With the power of these connections, it gives our guests a better understanding of who they are, what they like, what works for them, what doesn’t work for them, what effects them and how, etc. Our guests are taught how to make healthy choices and habits, that will continue to serve them in their pursuit of long term sobriety. Understanding yourself is key to treating alcoholism and addiction. We support self-discovery through providing individual therapy sessions, group therapy, adventure therapy, activity therapy, and equine therapy.

5. Nutritional Importance

With holistic therapy, a large part of health is how you feed your body. Royal Life Centers has a nutritional plan that focuses on well-balanced nutrition for our guests. We have an in-house private chef that develops three well-balanced meals for our guests each day. We also offer 24/7 access to beverages and snacks. We teach the importance of nutrition when making food choices. Balancing bodily health is all part of a holistic treatment approach. Often times in alcohol addiction or drug abuse, bad eating habits are made. These habits do not go away once a person stops drinking or stops using drugs, so we continue to treat addiction by showing new, healthy ways to live.

Addiction causes a disconnect between mind, body, and spirit— so our holistic approach to addiction treatment, treats the mind, body, and spirit to strengthen those connections and optimize health for a full recovery.
